Governors introduction
de Vere Primary School is part of a Multi-Academy Trust know as Attain Academy Partnership. The MAT has its own Trust Board and de Vere Primary School has its own Local Governing Body, which is accountable to the Trust Board. The Trust Board has delegated to de Vere Primary School's Local Governing Body the responsibility of the day-to-day governance of the academy, for monitoring and evaluating progress and attainment and for supporting and challenging the leadership of the school to ensure high quality teaching, good behaviour and safeguarding of pupils.
The role of the Local Governing Body is a strategic one. It is responsible for promoting high standards and educational achievement. The Local Governing Body does not become involved in day-to-day management issues – that is the role of the Headteacher.
The aim of the Local Governing Body is to make sure that the academy is a safe, happy and pleasant environment for the children and staff to learn and play together. They ensure that the education your child receives is the best that can be provided.
The Local Governing Body consists of appointed and elected members from all sections of the community. They can be parents, staff at the academy, residents in the locality or representatives of local businesses.
To be effective, Governors need to really “know” the academy – to have an accurate understanding of what is done well and what could be done even better. To do this they attend meetings, visit the academy to monitor what is happening, consider a range of data and information about the achievements of children, seek the views of parents and children and receive reports from the Headteacher and other staff including subject leaders. Governors are involved in discussing the priorities for future development. Governors attend training courses and receive information so that they are aware of developments in education and changes in the law which affect schools.
